That’s right folks Tuesday my husband and I went to see Thor: The Dark World. I was expecting an action packed thriller, but I was happily surprised when that wasn’t all it was, it gave that little bit of everything. Thor 2, is an action packed, romantic with that little extra comedic relief.
I’m not much of theater goer -unless it is live theater- and neither is my husband. We are more the type to wait for it to either come to DVD or now days Netflix. However for one of my classes I needed to either watch a movie in theater, read a just released book, watch a just released song from an artist, etc. So in the spirit of wanting to use this to spend time with my husband, -plus the fact of not having enough free time to get some reading in- we went to the movies. We were trying to decide between Ender’s Game and Thor, technically we hadn’t chosen either until we got to the theater and Ender’s Game had already started. In any case, my husband and I had also just watched Avengers so it was fitting that we saw Thor 2.
As of Wednesday night Thor: The Dark World is ranked #26 on www.boxofficemojo.com 2013 list.

Strengths
The plot is appealing to both males and females.
The fact that some of the surprise were actually surprises was a nice thing to see in a superhero movie.
The fact that Kat Dennings‘ goofy humor was put in, made me smile. I am definitely a fan of hers.
Tom Hiddleson
Frigga’s part within this movie gave depth to her own story line as well as Loki, Thor, and very minimally Odin’s. (Yay for woman kicking ass!)
Weaknesses
Natalie Portman‘s character seems to play that cliched damsel in distress role for most of the the film. Jane, her character doesn’t begin to stand by herself until the end of the movie.
The lack of explanation as to why the dark elves wish to send the realms back into darkness is most definitely a weakness in my mind.
Malekith, the leader of the dark elves is never really flushed out in detail, or even at all.
The romantic notion that Sif and Thor should be together was poked at but other then a few glances between Jane and Sif, it isn’t addressed.
Aside from the few good surprises the story line was almost predictable, sadly.
All in all Thor: The Dark World, is not a fantastic movie but it does hold it’s own in my mind. If it came down to it I don’t think I would watch it again unless watching it with someone who hadn’t seen it yet. -though that is because I am not the type to re watch movies- When it comes down to it I think that this sequel will not be easily forgotten but it wont be as memorable as it could have been.
Words from the critics
Like so many comic book epics these days, Alan Taylor’s 3-D Thor: The Dark World is both monumental and generic.

“The Dark World,” while a serious feature, does not take itself so seriously as the first film. It has a sly humor about it.November 11, 2013 Full ReviewBob BloomJournal and Courier (Lafayette, IN)
I shamefully didn’t get to watch the first before seeing the second but I do see the Sly humor in this film. This relief from the serious is much needed in my mind.

Aside from going to watch Thor 2, I attempted to watch the first movie, though it was too late at night after a long day to finish it. I also searched tons of GIFs and watched a great prank interview with Tom Hiddleson -I will embed this video below somewhere-. As for my husband, he thought the movie was good, the fact that it had a love plot within it didn’t sit quite right with him. He isn’t a fan of action movies with a love plot in them though so that was to be expected.
In conclusion, I would recommend someone to watch Thor: The Dark World, just because of the two main men within it. Tom and Chris play their characters very well and some of the lines Loki has made the movie, in my mind.
I considered seeing this, but I’ve been rather reluctant since I wasn’t too into the first one. I am a big fan of the source material though and am still pretty interesting. The first one was really just predictable and the character development seemed random and forced. I read the Huffington Post review and it said it was a lot of the same. Though it sounds like the two main actors will make it worth it. I can stomach most anything if it at least has a few good one liners and some decent action scenes, as long as i’m not expecting more from it.
Huffington post if anyone wants a second opinion.
